About g55artworks online gallery

g55artworks is a new online Art Gallery. It is run by, and features the artwork of Norfolk based artists. It is not intended to be a major commercial enterprise in its self, rather just a medium for local artists to display, promote and sell their work. We deal with original works of art only, and don't sell prints as a rule. Some websites boast several thousand paintings on view, it would take you the best part of a week to wade your way through so many - supposing you have the stamina! We limit our content to make a single visit an enjoyable and leisurely experience.

The Paintings

All the paintings have been photographed digitally in an attempt to reproduce most closely the originals. This exercise has been reasonably successful, only a few differ slightly and then the reproduction tends to understate the colour. We've avoided exaggerating the colour to compensate, via the nifty software available to us here in the g55 Corporate Headquarters, as a matter of principle. But what is certain is that there are no instances of the reproduced colour appearing stronger than the original.
All the sizes are to the nearest one-quarter-of-an-inch & 0.5cm. Where a painting is framed you also get the maximum dimensions of the frame (underneath the word 'framed' - as you've probably worked out for yourself) and again to the nearest ¼" and 0.5cm.
Whilst we are on the subject of measurements, you can be assured that the bigwigs, upstairs here at the Corporate HQ, spent many hours agonising about whether the inches or the centimetres should be bracketed, or indeed whether to include at all the imperial (or the metric) measurement. The temptation was to hurl ourselves over the cliff of total metrification, but as you can see we got instead a good old British compromise. Well, I suppose it keeps everybody happy.

Artist Profiles

Jane Lee
Jane was born in 1956 and is the daughter of the distinguished artist, the late Dick Lee. Painting has been part of Jane's life for as long as she can recall, as her father taught for many years at the Camberwell School of Art. She attended formal drawing and painting classes at Camberwell and the Norwich School of Art.
Jane's travels all took her in search of light - Italy in the 1970s, Cyprus in the 1980s and then to Norfolk. She lived in Cyprus from 1980 for seven years and there she painted in watercolour and pen-and-ink. Tourists were quick to spot her and she sold her paintings widely, while her drawings were published in such varied places as Bahrain and her local paper, the 'Cyprus Mail'.
Returning from Cyprus in 1987 she settled in Norfolk and continued painting whilst working as a chef. Jane has exhibited alongside H.R.H. the Prince of Wales at the 1991 Burnham Market Arts Festival, and has had work selected at the Eastern Open Exhibition in Kings Lynn. She has sold work through several galleries in North Norfolk and London. Her beautifully composed still lifes, interior views and window prospects have a tranquillity and a sense of delight in what she sees; and buyers quickly covet them.

Alan Goodwin
Born in Liverpool, he studied Graphic Arts at the Liverpool College of Art and worked in the graphic arts industry for several years. Then a change of direction took him to a local music college where he completed a diploma course in jazz. Following this he moved to Norfolk and was inspired by the landscape.
His approach to paintings his subjects is that he regards a landscape as a large scale still life; and a still life as a small scale landscape. His subjects are varied, and he is inspired by the natural shapes of nature and light - particularly in early morning "when it's at its best".
He has sold work through a number of galleries in North Norfolk and London. His influences are Paul Cézanne, Giorgio Morandi, Vilhelm Hammershøi, William Coldstream and Dick Lee.
